It has a long history, originating in Europe in the 12th century.
At the time, when there was no technology to insert elastic thread into socks, string- or ring-shaped garters were made to prevent socks from slipping down.
It is popular for its classical style.
The belt part is made of elastic and the length can be adjusted.
